Thank You for Your Giving Spirit

Adopt A Destiny, a 501(c)3 organization, is an all-volunteer charity. We support first-gen, low-income black students, from the beginning to the end of their college journeys. We cover everything from college fees to room and board, meals, clothing, furnishings, appliances, airfare, and US student visa applications.

your support Makes A Difference Whether small or large,

The Backstory:
In 2017, our founder Morlette Cowan made a personal promise upon which Adopt A Destiny was born. Spotting an article about a determined 18-year-old named Sashalee, Morlette felt a deep connection to her struggle to secure funds for college despite graduating at the top of her class. Determined to make a difference, Morlette promised Sashalee that she would create a charity to shed light on the challenges faced by young people like her.

Scouring social media, Morlette and Sashalee connected, forming a bond that transcended financial support. Over four and a half years, Morlette sponsored Sashalee’s education until she proudly became a doctor in 2022. Today, Sashalee pays it forward by volunteering with Adopt A Destiny, serving as a mentor for other aspiring students.

Your Donation in Action

Despite our modest resources, in 2022 we grew our scholarship program from one to seven students, demonstrating our commitment to expanding our reach. Still, we’re more than just a scholarship program; we’re a beacon of hope, providing a lifeline to students who would otherwise be denied the opportunity to pursue higher education. Our students’ success stories are a testament to our unwavering commitment.

Breaking Barriers

We've provided financial assistance and mentorship to students like Michael Bailey a Morant Bay High alumni. The future neuroscientist makes the deans list every semester. Michael no longer takes pictures of textbooks to study - because of donors who care.

Impacting Communities

Sashalee Beasley, sold sweets to raise money for college. In 2024 she will return to Jamaica as a doctor, addressing the critical need for healthcare professionals in her underserved community.

Empowering Changemakers

Britney Ming, a Titchfield High alumna and a 2023 UWI graduate, holds a BSc in Bio Engineering,. Upon graduating she received a full-ride grant from FIT for her doctorate studies, demonstrating the far-reaching impact of our support.

Destiny-Maker:
Know that we appreciate your support.  Your generosity knows no bounds, and with your continued help, we can make a difference beyond Giving Tuesday. Thank you for being a beacon of hope in the lives of these students.

Founder's story

A Personal Promise, A Lifelong Impact

In 2017, Morlette made a commitment that changed lives.

In 2019, Morlette’s promise extended to honor her late sister, Dahlia Cowan, who spent over two decades nurturing students in London, Africa, and Jamaica. Inspired by Dahlia’s legacy, Morlette embarked on a transformative journey after Dahlia’s untimely passing in late 2019.
With a budget fueled by Morlette’s savings, Adopt A Destiny came to life in 2021. Operating on an annual budget of just $40,000, our organization has proven remarkably efficient in providing comprehensive financial support to students and other community members.

Broadening our

Community Outreach

We've partnered with organizations like Heartshare St. Vincent to expand our impact, through our Precious Pearls Makeover, for minority women triumphing through adversity.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE:
One of our biggest challenges is securing funding to meet the growing demand for our services. We appreciate your support

Your generosity knows no bounds, and with your continued support, we can make a difference beyond Giving Tuesday. Thank you for being a beacon of hope in the lives of these students.

Hope lies in dreams, in imagination, and in the courage of those who dare to make dreams into reality.
